Mayo, pickle juice, ketchup, and SaaS

Between our next #vtjtalks event and SAAS North, you'll be craving some networking.

As I compiled this newsletter, I fell down a rabbit hole of secret sauce recipes. What resulted was a five-alarm cheeseburger hankering. But, like Michael Jordan in the 1997 NBA Finals, I powered through, despite an attention-seeking stomach. I’m off to grab lunch as you check out you these events.

Just announced: The Secret Sauce of Software Sales and Customer Success | Sept 21

  • #vtjtalks brings together entrepreneurs, executives, talent, investors, and tech community members like you every month to network and learn.

  • One of the keys to SaaS and enterprise sales is the idea that you’re not selling products – you’re delivering outcomes. But what does that actually mean? And for aspiring entrepreneurs, sales executives, and customer success leaders, what does that look like from a strategic and tactical standpoint?

  • Join us this month to connect with sales and customer engagement leaders, and get insights into the art and science of marketing and selling SaaS and custom solutions. But we’re not stopping there. We’ll also be digging into the tricks to customer retention with Vancouver leaders who actually know what they’re talking about.

  • Our first announced executive speaker is Chris Hobbs, co-founder and president of TTT Studios.

  • #vtjtalks events routinely sell out so grab your tickets early. Plus, you’ll be rewarded with door-crasher and early-bird pricing:Get 'em while you can

Just announced: A conversation with The New York Times’ tech reporter Tripp Mickle at entrepreneurship@UBC | Sept 29

  • Ticket sales are now open to Vancouver Tech Journal members for a very special event on September 29. Tripp Mickle is the author of After Steve: How Apple Became a Trillion-Dollar Company and Lost Its Soul, which tells the inside story of the unspoken power struggle between Tim Cook and head designer Jony Ive after the death of Steve Jobs.

  • As part of our #vtjtalks event series, Tripp will join us at entrepreneurship@UBC Robson Square to discuss what entrepreneurs can learn from Apple's rise to becoming the most valuable company in the world, and how founders can harness the power of storytelling to grow their business.

  • Until September 14, ticket sales are limited to Vancouver Tech Journal members (our paid subscribers). For details on how to access limited member-only tickets, plus access discounted membership, click here »

Going green is truly a team sport

Uber Canada is excited to announce the expansion of its partnership with Hertz Canada to get more electric vehicles on the road. Drivers on the Uber platform can now sign up to rent Teslas.

Another partnership with Shell Recharge Solutions is bringing more charging stations to British Columbia.

These are both steps towards Uber’s ongoing work to become a zero-emission platform.

From the Home Key — How To: Create a Successful NFT Project with Wilson Lee and more | Sept 14

  • Which blockchain should you build on? What skill sets are needed on your team? How do you set prices? How do you market your project? Why are you even doing this? Before you put the energy and effort into trying to create an NFT project, there are a lot of key questions that you should be asking – and answering — first.

  • But there’s a lot of noise out there. It’s not clear who knows what, or if so-called experts are being transparent. Fortunately, Vancouver is literally the birthplace of NFTs, and because of that, it’s home to multiple people who actually know what they’re talking about.

  • For this latest Vancouver Web3 event at the Home Key, come learn the what, why, and how of launching a successful NFT project, from people who've actually done it.
