Digital effects giant Wētā FX opens Vancouver office, welcomes expressions of interest
The New Zealand outfit was bought last year by Unity Technologies.
Wētā FX has already been to Gotham and the Multiverse. Now it’s officially landed in Vancouver.
The New Zealand special effects studio, originally founded by Peter Jackson, was bought by Unity Technologies last year. Unity is based in San Francisco but has a ton of Vancouver connections, including a Yaletown office.
Wētā will be hiring some 75 employees in Vancouver to start with as it begins what it calls the beginning of its global expansion. It’s the first step for the company beyond its home country after Unity’s $1.6 billion deal last November.
The studio has recently completed work on projects like The Batman, Moon Knight and Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and was recently nominated for an Oscar for its work on Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The Vancouver office will hit the ground running with multiple sequels to Avatar planned—the first of which will hit theatres in December.
Interested applicants are encouraged to submit “expressions of interest.”
