Bulletin: Dapper Labs raising new round at $7.5 billion valuation

The startup's perceived value has nearly tripled in just two weeks.

Barely a few weeks after raising $305 million USD at a valuation of $2.6 billion USD, Vancouver’s Dapper Labs is reportedly raising a new round at a $7.5 billion USD valuation.

The news comes from a report in The Information, in which the publication cites “a person with direct knowledge of the deal talks.”

On March, the company, which is behind NBA Top Shot and the Flow blockchain, announced that it had closed $305 million USD funding led by Coatue, with support from NBA legend Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson, as well as entertainment and music heavyweights including Ashton Kutcher, Will Smith and Shawn Mendes, among many others.

Other strategics that participated included venture capital giant a16z, The Chernin Group, USV, B.C.’s Version One, and Venrock, among others. That round of financing brought the total capital raised by Dapper Labs to $357 million.

This new rumoured round “coincides with the recent NFT boom, during which Dapper’s NBA Top Shot has regularly comprised the majority of weekly users of NFT platforms,” according to The Block.

According to Dapper Labs, NBA Top Shot is one of the world's fastest-growing marketplaces, with more than $500 million in collectibles bought and sold, more than 800,000 registered accounts, more than 338,000 customers with at least one NFT, and over 3 million transactions, five months into its open beta.
